Well, let's start with this--a Registered Dietitian (RD) does not wear a hair net
(unless she is working in foodservice).
You can invite an RD to dinner without worrying about what you will serve him/her.
R.D. stands for “Registered Dietitian”. An RD is THE nutrition expert.
An RD:
1) has a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in human nutrition or dietetics
2) has completed a dietetics internship
3) has passed a Registration Examination by the American Dietetic Association*
4) maintains Registration by completing 75 continuing professional education credits
every 5 years
*Note: the dietetics professional organization previously known as the American Dietetic Association has been renamed the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
For help finding an RD in your area, call the
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 1-800-877-1600.

RDs provide individualized nutrition counseling, called Medical Nutrition Therapy. Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) involves in-depth individualized nutrition assessment and a duration and frequency of care using the Nutrition Care Process to manage disease.

There are a lot of people who call themselves "nutritionists" who do NOT have the qualifications of a Registered Dietitian. You do not need a license to “practice” nutrition in many states of our country. All N.E.W. LIFE Dietitians are Registered Dietitians.

An RD can provide correct, up-to-date nutrition information and provide an individual eating plan for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, intestinal disorders, weight-loss, sports nutrition, eating disorders, prevention of cancer and more. |
So what's an R.D. (Registered Dietitian)?
new!
