Nutrition Bite 4
Cardiovascular Disease & Forgiveness
Welcome to Nutrition Bites
with Registered Dietitian Diane Preves, developer of the 10-week N.E.W. LIFE program, author of Restoring the Blessing and Diet Book Reviews.
There’s a lot more to the story of cardiovascular disease. Homocysteine (a breakdown product of animal protein), metabolic syndrome (also known as pre-diabetes), and inflammation are key factors. Pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory factors have been discovered that affect our arteries--excess insulin promotes inflammation; fish oil, olive oil, and phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables are anti-inflammatory. But what always has been a healthy diet still is--a predominantly plant-based diet with minimal animal food.
Preventing cardiovascular disease is also a matter of keeping our emotional lives healthy. Stress is a risk factor and the evidence leads to 2 questions:
1) Is stress a burden or a challenge?
2) Are you bitter or forgiving?
Jesus said in Mark 11:25:
Did you know that half of all heart attacks occur in people with low LDL-cholesterol?
“. . . if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Paul wrote to the Colossians:
“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13
As we strive to be good stewards of our bodies through good diet and exercise, we do well to follow God’s precepts for all aspects of our lives.
